Building Our Future

Building for Tomorrow's Students, Today

For more than 75 years, the Contra Costa Community College District (4CD) has opened doors for students and working families across the county. Our colleges are where people learn new skills, take on new career paths, and build better futures. Thanks to community support, recent bond funds have helped 4CD modernize classrooms, labs, and student centers across all three colleges. While this progress has been significant, many older buildings still need repairs or replacement to meet current safety, technology, and sustainability standards.

To address these needs, the 4CD Governing Board is considering placing a bond measure to fund critical projects outlined in the District’s Facilities Plans.

What We've Achieved Together

Over the life of Measure E, 4CD has completed more than 46 major projects that have improved how students learn and how faculty and staff teach and provide services to our students.

Some of the most visible projects include:

  • Contra Costa College Science Center – A new science building with updated labs, classrooms and a planetarium that gives students hands-on experience in biology, chemistry and physics

  • Diablo Valley College Art and Kinesiology/Athletics Complexes – Two new buildings that provide studios, collaboration areas and fitness space that support creativity, teamwork and wellness

  • Los Medanos College Brentwood Center – A 55,000-square-foot satellite campus that provides students with science and computer labs, tutorial spaces, library resources, a campus bookstore, food services, and student commons

All projects followed voter-approved spending rules, and the bond program has had clean, independent audits.

Accountability You Can Trust

The District is committed to using public funds responsibly.

The Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee, comprised of local residents and taxpayers, meets quarterly and reviews all spending. Each year, independent audits confirm that bond funds are used as promised and that the District continues to deliver strong financial management.

Economic and Community Impact

4CD contributes about $2.3 billion to the Contra Costa County economy every year and supports nearly 24,000 local jobs. Modern college facilities help students prepare for careers in nursing, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and public safety. These programs strengthen the local workforce and help keep graduates working in the communities where they live.

Looking Ahead

The District's Facilities Plans for CCC, DVC, and LMC identify significant facility and infrastructure needs across all three colleges. While recent bond funds have modernized many buildings, some facilities remain outdated and do not fully meet today’s academic, safety, and sustainability standards.

To address these needs, the 4CD Governing Board is considering a potential bond measure in 2026 to provide funding to complete essential improvements identified in the Facilities Plans.
